Is hair transplant in Singapore the right solution you are looking for?

We all know that many middle aged men will experience some degree of hair loss. Genetics, of course, plays a part in male pattern baldness – chances are you’ll experience hair loss if the men in your family did – but even if your brother, dad and uncles rocked full heads of hair into old age, it doesn’t mean you’re in the clear.

From controlling diet to seeking medications, you may still experience hair loss. If you’re wondering how you can do for more hair growth, try FUE hair transplant treatment!

What is FUE?

It is known as the Follicular Unit Extraction which is a widely performed technique used in hair transplant worldwide. The technique was originally designed to replace the classic old FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) technique. FUT procedure was done by extracting an entire piece of skin or scalp and the target area was implanted with the skin or scalp. FUE simple makes it way easier as extraction is only done with the follicles instead of the entire piece of scalp or skin.

Here’s a summary of what you need to know of FUE:-

  • In FUE, individual follicular units are taken, leaving only tiny dots scars that are barely noticeable
  • Ideal for relatively small transplants, suitable for younger patients during a small number of grafts in the hairline
  • Rapid recovery period compared to FUT

Am I suitable for FUE Hair Transplant?

The level of the patient’s hair loss, the availability of healthy scalps to extract hair follicles for the transplant, and the patient’s lifestyle habits will all be considered during initial assessment of the patient’s suitability.

Hair transplant procedures in Singapore may not be suitable for patients with certain medical disorders, including cicatricial alopecia, diffuse unpatterned alopecia, body dysmorphic disorder and trichtillomania. Due to the many factors that have been taken into account, careful and detailed medical and family history analysis, as well as examination, must be done at the time of consultation.

What can I expect during FUE Hair Transplant?

1. Anaesthesia & Extraction

Your donor site will first be cleansed with antiseptic solution and then numbed with anaesthetic to prepare for the extraction of hair follicles. Donor sites can be the back of the side of your head or your body. Each hair follicle is extracted individually from the donor sites and then stored in a special solution to preserve them for implantation.

2. Hair Graft Inspection

Each individual hair graft undergoes a selection process whereby they are inspected carefully under a magnifying glass and only the best and most usable hair grafts are selected. This process helps to ensure the quality and increase the survivability of the hair grafts.

3. Planning & Implantation

After the best hair grafts have been chosen, we will plan the positioning of the grafts to make the transplant look as natural as possible. The factors we take into consideration are the angle, direction and distribution of the grafts.

After the plan has been finalised, the hair grafts that were extracted are then implanted onto the areas of your head that are experiencing hair loss.

4. Recovery

Immediately after the surgery, you may experience swelling at the donor site and across your forehead for a couple of days. Your doctor will advise you on how to best take care of your transplant after surgery to increase its survivability. Recommendations may include keeping your head inclined when sleeping, restrictions on washing your hair or even time off from work for a week or so.

How many grafts will I need?

To determine how grafts are required, a few factors must be taken into account. First, what region is the impacted and to what extent has thinning occured? For a full head of hair, 400-600 hair grafts are often required, and for the 90cm2 of the head, 1000-3000 hair transplants are typically needed. Therefore, you might only need 500-1500 grafts if the affected area is just the frontal hairline, which is typically between 10-30cm2. Ultimately, depending on the required density and the availability of donors, each individual’s required amount of hair grafts varies greatly.

Why should I get a hair transplant in Singapore?

Having to hide under a wig is only a temporary solution. Even with medication, the effects of hair growth will slowly disappear as time goes by. A hair transplant, however, will let you grow your hair naturally for the rest of your life. The permanent results are achieved as your new hair follicles are resistant to the hormones that caused the balding in the first place.

Besides, there are basically no risks associated with hair transplant treatments so you won’t have anything to worry about! All it takes is just a small needle used to transplant the hair follicles on your scalp to ensure that you won’t end up with unsightly scars. If you’d like, you’ll also be provided mild sedative to help you relax during the treatment. The lack of discomfort allows you to return to your normal activities a few days after your hair transplant.
